Aluminum PCB is a kind of metal-based PCB with good heat dissipation. Generally speaking, a single-sided board includes a circuit layer (copper foil), a Dielectric (non-conducting) Layer and a metal base layer (usually aluminum, or copper alloy). Double-sided board are designed for high-end using, the structure is circuit layer, insulation, aluminum, insulation and circuit layer. There is only a few applications for the multi-layer board.
Compared with the traditional FR-4, Aluminum PCB can minimize the thermal resistance to the lowest point, so that it is with excellent thermal conductivity. Compared with the thick-film ceramic circuits, its mechanical properties is better.
Considering the thermal conductivity, rigidness and cost, Aluminum PCB is the most economic choice. It has good heat dissipation ability and cheap cost. Copper PCB has better performance but more expensive. Now the largest user for Aluminum PCB is LED industry and Audio Products.
